Tennessee Valley storms put damper on Easter plans

Florence residents felt the impact of Sunday's storm

FLORENCE, Ala. — It was a bit wild in the Western part of the state this afternoon.

 WZDX News spoke to some families who say they've never imagined spending their Easter Sunday like this.

In Florence, downed power lines and trees on Chisholm Road and Blaze Drive.

Pockets of flood waters seen in the area. The storm knocking out power in the middle of one family prepping Easter Sunday dinner.

"I went out to the garage and went downstairs to the basement and that's when I could just see everything - you couldn't see through the rain and there was just stuff flying everywhere," says Florence resident Linda Wheeler.

This weather putting a damper on this family's entire Easter plans.

"Well you hope that you know we can spend the time with our grand-kids you know on Easter outside and you know Easter egg hunts and stuff like that but of course with this weather coming through you don't get to do that," says Florence resident Ray Wheeler.

Slick roads near Hillsboro as several responders were on scene at an accident on Kirby Rd and Highway 20. A truck left upside down, and another partially submerged in water in a ditch.

WZDX News did see someone carried out on a stretcher but injuries are unknown at this time.
