Crossing guard hit by car now off ventilator, family says

Terri Perdue was critically injured after being struck by a car around 7:30 a.m. October 18 near West Madison Pre-K.

MADISON, Ala. — A crossing guard who was hit and seriously injured by a car last Friday is on the road to recovery, according to her son.

Madison Police said Terri Perdue was wearing a yellow high-visibility jacket and gloves when the accident happened around 7:30 a.m. on October 18 near West Madison Pre-K on Wall Triana Hwy.

Perdue was taken to the hospital in critical condition and had to be put on a ventilator, according to a post her son made on social media.

"Miss Terri," as she is known, has since been taken off the ventilator and is now breathing on her own. However she likely has a long road of rehabilitative therapy head of her.

Her son said the family appreciates the prayers and support the community has offered.

A GoFundMe has been established to help the family with medical costs. As of Thursday evening it has raised more than $12,000 of an established $20,000 goal.

Madison Police said that the driver who hit Perdue stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
