HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — "Tootsie" is a laugh-out-loud love letter to the theatre and tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but difficult actor who struggles to find work until one show-stopping act of desperation lands him the role of a lifetime.
Adam Du Plessis plays the role of Ron Carlisle, the grumpy, arrogant director. Du Plessis says, "This is very much a musical comedy. It's all about having a good time."
Du Plessis likes to refer to his character as what some would probably call a "piece of work." However, "the biggest part of me that is in the character is the goofiness that he has," he said.
For those who have never been to the theatre, this is what you can expect. "You'll see singing, you'll see dancing, you'll see acting. You'll see everything that is involved in musical theatre as a whole," said Du Plessis. You don't even have to know anything about the show or the movie. "You can just come along and expect to have a good time and laugh along with everyone else, including us, because we have so much fun doing the show every single night," he added.
Overall, the whole point of the show is "to have people sit back and have a really, really amazing time laughing at us, with us, and and just enjoying the the comedy of the whole experience," he said.
"Tootsie" performances will take place at the Von Braun Center this entire weekend.
"So Friday. And then two shows on Saturday and two shows on Sunday," Du Plessis stated.
