Heading to downtown Huntsville? Expect traffic delays though Sunday.

Special events including Panoply and ongoing construction projects mean that traffic will be especially heavy around Big Spring Park and the VBC.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — If you're planning to head to downtown Huntsville this week, be prepared for heavy traffic, construction, and lots of people. The George Jones Tribute Concert, Panoply, and ongoing construction are converging to make driving in downtown slower than usual.

Things to know:

George Jones Tribute Concert: 

The northbound lanes of Monroe Street between Clinton and Williams avenues are closed to accommodate a construction project.  Southbound lanes will feature one lane moving in each direction (see attached map). Existing driveways along Monroe in front of the Von Braun Center and City parking garage will be right in / right out only. Traffic control measures will assist motorists. 

Panoply:

On Monday, April 24, at 8 a.m., the westbound lanes of Williams Avenue between Church Street and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard will be closed for setup.

On Wednesday, April 26, at 8 a.m., all lanes of Church Street between Clinton and William avenues will close.

The closures will remain in effect until Monday, May 1, at 5 p.m. to accommodate event breakdown.

Monroe Street closure: 

Weather permitting, the northbound lanes of Monroe Street between Clinton and Williams avenues will close for approximately three months, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, April 24, to accommodate a construction project.

Southbound lanes will feature one lane moving in each direction (see attached map). Existing driveways along Monroe in front of the Von Braun Center and City parking garage will be right in / right out only. Traffic control measures will assist motorists.

Due to heavy pedestrian traffic, please use caution when traveling downtown.
