The State will seek the death penalty for Morgan County septuple homicide suspect Frederic Rogers.

VALHERMOSO SPRINGS, Ala. — On June 4, 2020, seven people and a dog were killed in Valhermoso Springs, Alabama. Two men, Frederic Rogers and John Michael Legg, were each charges with six counts of Capital Murder and one count of Capital Murder-Two or More People in what District Attorney Scott Anderson called at the time "the most significant crime ever committed in the history of Morgan County."

Now, the trial for Frederic Rogers is underway. Dozens of witnesses could testify in the case.

UPDATE: Afternoon testimony is underway. The state has shown just over 300 photos.

Deputy Jacob Fanning with the Madison County Sheriff's Office was called out to assist with a "large scene". He testified that he did the first walk through, then documented the crime scene, taking over 1,000 photos .

During the showing of the crime scene photos, Rogers was bouncing and shaking his legs.

MORNING TESTIMONY

The attorney for the state said that on June 4, 2020, Morgan County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a home on Tallucah Rd. At the home, 7 people had been shot, each multiple times. Two suspects were identified, John Legg and Frederic Allen Rogers, also called "Ricky".

According to defense attorney Carl Cole, there is not question of Rogers's guilt. He said that Rogers is already guilty of murder and will die in prison. The jury will have a say in whether he dies in prison of natural causes or in the execution chamber.

Morgan County Sheriff's Sergeant Vernon Loosier testified that he responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of shots fired and that it wasn't the first time deputies had been called to the house. When the first deputy arrived, he found three bodies in the garage, one on fire. In the house, four more bodies were found, along with fire.
