Tuscumbia teen killed in car crash; Three others injured

A 17-year-old from Tuscumbia was killed and three others injured in a car crash early Tuesday morning.

COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. — A 17-year-old from Tuscumbia was killed in a car crash early Tuesday morning.

According to ALEA, the accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Woodmont Drive near Ponderosa Drive, just south of Tuscumbia.

Authorities say the 2007 Toyota Camry, in which the teen was a passenger, left the roadway and struck an embankment. The car then overturned, hitting a utility pole and a culvert.

The passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, another 17-year-old from Tuscumbia, was injured and airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. Two other passengers, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, both from Tuscumbia, were also injured and transported to a local hospital.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the crash.
