FLORENCE, Ala. — Police in Florence have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the discovery of a body in an alley Wednesday morning.
William Shane Nichols, 54, and Joni Renee Cummings, 38, both from Florence, were booked at the Lauderdale County Detention Center. They are charged with abuse of a corpse and were being held without bond due to previous charges.
The body of a 31-year-old man -- Christopher Thomas Pierce -- was found in the 2700 block of Huntsville Road about 9:40 a.m. after a passing driver notified police.
Investigators learned that Pierce had been spotted earlier at a nearby property and obtained a search warrant that led to the suspects.
An autopsy will be performed on Pierce and details on the cause of death are pending.
