Two police officers injured during firearm training drill in Decatur

Two Decatur police officers were injured during a firearms training drill on Thursday when one officer accidentally discharged his weapon.
City council president Jacob Ladner says a vote will be held to hire a review panel to examine the policies, practices, and culture of DPD.

DECATUR, Ala. — Two Decatur police officers were injured during a firearms training drill on Thursday. According to Police Chief Todd Pinion, one officer accidentally discharged his weapon, resulting in a bullet grazing his leg.

A second officer suffered a minor cut from shrapnel. Both officers were taken to Parkway Hospital by a fellow officer who was present at the drill.

Both officers were treated and released the same day and are expected to resume their regular duties.
