UAH Athletics and Hockey receive large donations

Both donations will greatly help UAH Athletics after suffering financial setbacks due to the pandemic.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The UAH Athletics program, made up of 14 Men’s and Women’s athletics programs, has received a $25,000 donation from Bryant bank, while the UAH Hockey program has received $10,000 from former Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer.

After many college programs have suffered financial setbacks due to the pandemic, and UAH Hockey almost being disbanded, these donations help keep these sports at UAH and benefit the entire Huntsville community.

“One thing that we want to do as a department is to be Huntsville's team, and in order to do that, we need the kind of support that Bryant Bank is able to give,” says Dr. Smith, the UAH Director of Athletics. “To see that they appreciate what we are trying to do here at UAH in athletics and overall as an institution makes us extremely proud, and I hope they are equally as proud to be a part of Huntsville's team!”

Dr. Smith also had this to say about former Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer's donation, "“We are so grateful for Ms. Spencer and her gift to the hockey program. As we work to better fund this program for the future, it is so important to have community support from people like her. We are truly grateful for this generous gift.”

This is the second year that Bryant bank has made a donation. “UAH has a highly successful athletic program and a rich history in the Huntsville community,” says Ken Watson, Bryant Bank Huntsville Market President. “The student-athletes are not only outstanding competitors in their respective sports, but also highly accomplished in the classroom and terrific ambassadors for sports in our community. Bryant Bank is excited to gift another $25,000 this year to the UAH Athletic Department to assist with the recruitment and development of its student-athletes and promote its athletic programs…Charge-On!”
