ALABAMA, USA — With schools not meeting in person, there are still many kids who rely on the schools for meals. This is how the school districts are handling it.
Limestone County Schools is feeding anyone 18 or younger. This is happening 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on March 30, April 1 and 3. It is a drive through service at the front of each high school (AHS, CHS, ELHS, EHS, THS, WLHS) and the student does not have to be present to receive the meal.
Madison County Schools will update their plans on April 1, but currently provide meals Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until April 3. They will provide lunch, and breakfast for the next day, for students of Madison County schools. These are available as a drive through only at Harvest Elementary, Hazel Green Elementary, Madison County Elementary, Madison Cross Roads, New Hope Elementary, and Riverton Elementary.
Decatur City Schools will be continuing their meal distribution at the 7 locations they have been using through Spring Break. For more information on what is being served and what organizations are helping, look at the post below.
Huntsville City Schools will serve meals to youth 18 or younger, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lee High School, Lakewood Elementary, Chaffee Elementary, Ridgecrest Elementary, McDonnell Elementary, and Highlands Elementary. The Rock Worship Center, The Dream Center and The Manna House will also continue their Curbside Meal Distribution Program. This is the plan for March 30 to April 3.
Florence City Schools have not updated their meal distribution plan, but this was their last update as of March 23. They will provide grab-and-go breakfast and lunch for all Florence City Schools students and any child 18 or under. Children must be present to receive a meal. Meal distribution will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following locations: W.C. Handy School, Weeden Elementary School, Harlan Elementary School, Florence Middle School, Church of the Highlands at the Shoals Marriott Conference Center, and The Dream Center on Cloverdale Road. Drop zones will be: Cherry Hill Homes at the old Boys and Girls Club, Kids Club on Hermitage Drive, Hibbett Middle School.
Hartselle City Schools have* a pickup every Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. that will provide 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches. Children must be present in the car, any child under the age of 18 is eligible, you do need to fill out a form, and pickup is at Crestline or F.E. Burleson. The meals are provided by Hartselle First Baptist Church.
*They have not posted a plan for the future, the reminders only pop up on Sundays or Mondays and mention the 5 meals, so at this time this seems like their schedule.
Morgan County Schools is similar to Harselle, in that they provide 9 meals on Monday, 4 breakfasts and 5 lunches, but they will not provide meals the week of Spring Break (this week). However, when they next provide meals, the pick up locations are Cotaco School, Danville Middle, Eva School, Falkville Schools, Lacey's Spring School, Priceville High, Sparkman School, Union Hill School, and West Morgan Elementary from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They also request that you fill out a form to sign up for meals.
DeKalb County Schools has moved to a schedule where pick up is offered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to noon, where each pickup will provide 2 lunches and 2 snacks. On April 3, students will receive 5 additional meals so that they will be provided for April 6 through 10. Their 21 meal distribution sites will remain operational and the bus meal delivery will continue.
Sheffield City Schools will distribute meals every Monday and Wednesday between the hours of 9:30 - 10:30 at Sheffield Jr. High School and Sheffield High School. Meals include a breakfast and a lunch.
Colbert County Schools have meals pickups on Mondays, where you can also pick up a Chromebook, school packets, and 2020 Census information from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. This is the same type of Hartselle where we are unsure of future plans, but the past weeks have shown pickups only on Mondays.
Franklin County (Alabama) has pick ups and deliveries on Mondays, and while this post was from 2 weeks ago, they did post yesterday that there was a pick up this morning, so this seems to be their schedule.

Lawrence County Schools will not have meal distributions this week since it is Spring Break, and said they will post their new meal distribution schedule for the rest of the year as soon as possible.
