HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is seeking eclipse glasses, whether new or gently used, to donate to children in South America who will witness a total solar eclipse on Oct. 2. The Rocket Center's education team aims to collect these glasses for Astronomers Without Borders, an international organization dedicated to promoting astronomy education and outreach.
At an event on April 22, representatives from Madison City Schools donated 1,000 pairs of glasses received during the recent eclipse.
"An eclipse is an amazing event to witness and bring community together and its an amazing teaching opportunity for our teachers out there and so we wanted to partner with our community here Madison City Schools so that we could help students around the world experience an eclipse when it happens," said Charles Austin, Education Outreach Coordinator at USSRC.
The Rocket Center's education team will continue to accept eclipse glasses donations until Monday, May 27. To make sure glasses are safe for future use in October, donated glasses should be ISO-rated and have been used during the most recent eclipse.
