Veteran in Need gets help from organizations

Local veteran getting their roof fixed after severe storm comes through town

HAZEL GREEN, Ala. — Two months ago, we introduced you to Paul D'Agostin, a local veteran who spent 17 years in service, deploying to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. Paul is now medically retired.

In May, BeArded WARRIORs and The Home Depot Foundation teamed up to give Paul a home upgrade. However, not even a week after construction closed up, a severe storm came through the area.

"The tornado came in not even a week later and it just devastated pretty much everything they put their hard work into," Paul says.

Images of the damage shows powerlines tilted; buildings crushed by fallen-down trees. But before Paul could have time to think, his family was already receiving calls from the people who just helped him out.

Paul's Wife, Angela D'Agostin, says, "They contacted us within a couple of hours in the morning and checked on us and had somebody out the next day to help."

This morning, construction was on scene starting on renovating the homes roof, which is being provided by Conyer Roofing and Exteriors. Huntsville Branch Manager Chet Clark says, "For me, giving back to the veterans, it just hits home and it really touches everybody's heart." Clark also believed this couldn't come at a more perfect time, saying, "This is the 4th of July. And what better way to say thank you than to come out and help reroof a home that has been damaged by a tornado here in Northern Alabama."

For Paul, this whole experience has given him some faith in humanity and how not everything has to be negative. "There's a lot of bad going on in the world and it sometimes it can get you down. But, you know, the whole situation, bearded warriors and Conyer roof And all these other people that have chipped in and Home Depot like, it just gives you a better a better faith in humanity. And, you know, it's not all bad out there," says Paul.
