HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Von Braun Center, a host to many entertainment, sporting and social events, is joining other Huntsville venues in going totally cashless.
The VBC started this cash-free process back in October, where the bars and concessions started no longer taking cash.
And now in just a few days their parking lot will be the last to become cash-free.
Samantha Nielsen, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the VBC says, "this is part of a trend that's been industry wide for the last few years. "
She adds that technology is making payments easier.
"A lot of people only carry their credit cards or they'll use the mobile payment. And we find that it does expedite lines. You just show your card quick, easy payment….There's less germs because you're not having to handle money and then even less theft because we don't have the cash."
This has been a gradual process starting with the bars and concessions and now the last phase is the parking lot.
"We've updated our parking point of sale systems and it will accept any major credit cards and digital pay like apple pay," Nielsen said.
But let's say you arrive at the VBC with only cash, well as of right now, you're still in luck by going to the facility's box office.
"We'll sell them a preloaded gift card that they can use in other areas of the facility. That's not going to be something we do long term, but certainly that's something we're doing for the foreseeable future," Nielsen said.
The gift card can be purchased in the box office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and they'll be providing this option for a limited time.
"We're not in the business to make somebody not have a good time or not be able to attend. So we want you to come. We want you to spend your money, obviously. So we're going to try to make it as easy of a transition as we can," Nielsen said.
