FLORENCE, Ala. — The annual W.C. Handy Festival kicks off July 18-28, celebrating the musical heritage of northwest Alabama.
Handy Fest, named after Florence native and "Father of the Blues" W.C. Handy, features more than 200 events. The week-long celebration includes mini concerts, headliner concerts, and more.
This year's headline concert will be held at the University of North Alabama's Norton Auditorium on Saturday, July 27 at 7 p.m. Larry Dodson, the famous lead vocalist of the Bar-Kays, is returning to the Shoals, bringing the world-famous Bar-Kays with him.
The Bar-Kays, known for hits such as "Hit and Run," "Move Your Boogie Body," "Holy Ghost," and "Too Hot to Stop," have achieved over 23 singles on the R&B charts spanning from the 1960s to the present day.
