HARTSELLE, Ala. — The Hartselle location of barbecue chain Moe's Original closed its doors for the last time on Saturday, its operators confirmed in a social media post made on Sunday.
"We tried our best for almost three years, but the restaurant business is tough right now," said the franchise's Facebook post in part. "We never want to have to make a decision like this but we feel it’s best."
The franchise owner, Ryan Helsley, said they will be in touch with anyone who had booked catering or events to discuss alternative options and other arrangements.
"As the owner, I attempted to take this on during a very busy time in my families (sic) lives and I've got to do what I've gotta do," Helsley wrote.
The franchisee's Decatur and Priceville locations remain open. The chain also has locations throughout Alabama and 12 other states, each operated by different individuals or groups.
The Hartselle location had hosted local and regional musical acts, including Kam Jones, whose performance was on what turned out to be the restaurant's final night in operation.
Their announcement was met by dozens of comments from customers on Facebook lamenting the closure. "Thanks again for all you have done for the music community and supporting live music," wrote Pete Dawson.
