What do libraries offer for North Alabama students?

When the academic going gets tough, students who need a little extra help can turn to their local libraries, where there's a lot more available than books.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — The new school year is well underway, and some kids may find they need extra help with homework, reading, and technology. We checked in with Huntsville Madison Public Libraries to learn about their services for students

We checked in with Huntsville Madison Public Libraries to learn about their services for students now that the school year is well underway.

Huntsville Madison Public Library Digital Services Librarian Annie Phillips explained that they have many resources that are available throughout the year, whether it be summer time or during the school year. "Well, it's great that we can offer this because  you've got different learning styles. You've got families who [are on] different schedules. Not only can you come in the library, of course, and access what we have, but ... you're able to access a lot of material that way, and not to mention e-books and audiobooks, all sorts of things."

Different programs serve different needs. "We have lots of things online that you can access with your library card." Furthermore,  if your child is learning how to read or just trying to get stronger with reading this may be something to look out for. "We have something called Bookflix and it's really cool because it takes well-loved picture books and then it pairs it with a like a nonfiction book. So maybe you've got,  you know, something about like balloons. you might have a nonfiction book with a fun picture book, and then with this online resource, you can  have it read out loud or your child can read along. There's things in in Spanish language."

Furthermore, that is not the only help available. "Other things. learning express libraries available for skills improvement, and  if you have a teenager that's studying for like the S.A.T.'s,  we've got S.A.T. preps and there's also something called Homework Alabama that's available throughout the state,  and that is partnered with tutor.com. So you can get  online tutoring."

Also , do not be afraid to reach out. That is what libraries are there for. "If you follow our social media, come to our web site, come talk to us.  we are constantly doing cool things, cool partnerships.  So just keep up with us and you'll find out some of the amazing things that are happening."
