HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Global technology outage. In our ever-more connected world, it's a phrase that no one ever wants to hear. FOX54 reached out to several local cities, utilities, first responders, and agencies to see how they were affected by the outage.
Not all of them have responded, but of those that have:
- City of Huntsville operations: Not affected
- Huntsville Police: Not affected
- Huntsville Utilities: Not affected
- HEMSI: Not affected
- TVA: Not affected
- City of Madison operations: Not affected
- City of Decatur: Not affected
- Decatur Police: Not affected
- Decatur Utilities: Not affected
- Madison County Sheriff: Not affected
- City of Athens:
Statement -
"Our IT Department started about 1:30 this morning trying to fix a workaround and got police and utility dispatches back up around 3 a.m. It took until 10 a.m. to get all departments back running." - Limestone County EMA: Not affected
- East Limestone High School: PowerSchool temporarily affected, now working
- Franklin County Sheriff: Main phone line temporarily affected, working since 10:00 a.m.
- Redstone Arsenal:
Statement - "We had no reported outages on the installation and our emergency services were not impacted. - Redstone Federal Credit Union:
Statement -
"Most Redstone Federal Credit Union business systems are operating as usual; however, systems that feed into Redstone may be affected.
"A Microsoft systems outage caused by a software update has disrupted Redstone’s access to loan operating systems, along with all the federal websites necessary for government loans.
"Direct Deposits received are being processed as normal if the member’s payroll department is able to submit it. Social Security and other federal payments that are received are being deposited into members’ accounts.
"Redstone debit and credit cards are working. However, some merchant systems are down and may affect those trying to make a purchase with those merchants. Those transactions may not make it through to Redstone’s processors and may be declined.
