HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Huntsville had a record number of absentee voters for the 2020 Municipal Election, and thousands more are expected to head to their precinct to vote.
If you've done your research and know which candidates you want to vote for, there are some things you need to remember before casting your ballot in person.
In order to vote, you must have your ID. This year, you are also encouraged to wear a face mask. As an extra precaution, you can also bring your own black pen.
Huntsville City Clerk Treasurer, Kenneth Benion, said, "We're also asking that if you can, bring your own ball point pen. That saves us on having to sanitize pens or slow the process down, and you don't have to worry about touching something that somebody else has touched. We will be able to sanitize those, but if you've got your own pen, then you won't have to worry about that."
It's also important that you're at the right place or you could be turned away.
"Typically, the reason people are turned away is they have moved and didn't change their voting precinct, so they're not listed on the books in the particular precinct they're trying to vote in," said Benion.
If that's the case, poll workers will allow you to vote using a provisional ballot. That ballot will be inspected to see if the vote will count.
To find your polling place, you can call the Madison County Board of Registrars at 256-532-3510 or click here for Alabama's Polling Place Finder.
The polls will be open on January 25th from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
WZDX will have the latest results from the elections on January 25th at 9:00 pm.
