HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — How long will new lane closures continue in the construction area of the North Memorial Pkwy Northern Bypass?
According to the City of Huntsville. about six months. According to the city's statement published by ALDOT:
“Weather permitting, single-lane closures northbound on North Memorial Parkway near Bob Wade Lane will begin Monday, Nov. 18, at 9 a.m. as part of the Huntsville Northern Bypass project. Closures both northbound and southbound will affect outside lanes during non-peak hours over the next six months.”
The Northern Bypass will intersect North Memorial Parkway south of Bob Wade Lane.
Traffic will also move from the parkway to newly-constructed service roads near Mastin Lake Road starting Wednesday, Nov. 20, according to ALDOT.
Drivers should drive carefully in the work zone and be aware of road workers.
Rogers Group, the contractor on the $34 million project, plans to begin shifting both northbound and southbound traffic to the service roads around 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. Subcontractor Shoals Electric has already installed new signals at the service road intersection with Mastin Lake Road. State troopers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
With overpass construction to come, the project will extend the Memorial Parkway expressway north of Mastin Lake Road. Now that the service roads are substantially complete, traffic must be moved from the mainline to allow construction of the overpass.
ALDOT and the city are collaborating on funding and construction on the projects.
