HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — While temperatures warmed slightly and the sun came out on Wednesday, moisture on roads is refreezing, leading to increasingly dangerous road conditions. A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for those west of the I-65 and a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for those east of I-65 through 9 a.m. Wednesday. A wintry mix began falling late Sunday evening, dusting all of North Alabama in varying amounts of snow, ice, and sleet.

10:30 a.m.: Huntsville Police Department has closed the westbound lanes of Weatherly Road from Canstatt Drive to Todd Mill Road and Executive Drive west of Ascent Trail.
10:27 a.m.: The City of Madison says 72 and Wall Triana highway are in a danger zone. They are asking people to not attempt to drive with roadways still frozen.
UPDATE: Oakwood Avenue is now back open.
8:30 a.m.: According to Huntsville Police Department, Oakwood Avenue is closed at Pulaski Pike due to an 18-wheeler stuck in the roadway.
8:10 a.m.: According to the City of Madison, roadways are still frozen. Areas that broke up yesterday have re-frozen into black ice. The City of Madison asks people to not attempt to drive.

January 16, 2024
10 p.m.: According to Jackson County EMA, all Roads in Jackson County are still deemed impassable until further notice.
5:40 p.m.: Huntsville Police Department has added Golf Road from Hunters Ridge Drive to Highridge Drive to closures list.
2:30 p.m.: Huntsville Police Department has added Cecil Ashburn Drive to its closures list. HPD says barricades have been placed across the roadway.
9:20 a.m.: The City of Madison reports the roadways in the City of Madison are extremely dangerous. Eastview is still closed due to conditions.
8:15 a.m. ALDOT update:
Routes in much of North Alabama are frozen or have icy patches. Frozen conditions are more widespread in areas that received more liquid precipitation. Crews are actively treating, but expect roads to remain hazardous.
ALDOT’s North Region includes Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Morgan, Limestone, Madison, Cullman, Marshall, Jackson, Dekalb, Etowah and Cherokee counties.

1:30 p.m.: Temperatures continue their downward trend as the day wears on, and icy patches continue to develop on roads and overpasses. Jackson County officials responded to an overturned truck on Alabama 117 earlier in the day, and officials warn that conditions may continue to deteriorate as snow and sleet continue to mix.
