Locals head to Monte Sano for Japanese Garden Festival

These students say they’re glad that so many people are interested in learning about a culture that’s different from their own.

The Japanese Garden Celebration invited locals to come out and witness some cultural dances, a Japanese Sword Performance, drummers, traditional food, and much more at the North Alabama Japanese garden.

UAH and Troy University students from their respective Japanese Culture Clubs helped put on the Fall Japanese Garden Celebration. Many of the UAH students have a close connection to the garden, they even help take care of it.

These students say they’re glad that so many people are interested in learning about a culture that’s different from their own.

We spoke with Sakurako Kuba, the UAH Japanese Culture Club President. She says she’s so happy to share her own culture with people who appreciate it and are willing to listen. She adds, “I came here four years ago. I am from Japan. I love to let people know about Japanese culture. I was surprised…I came here and many people are interested in the Japanese language, Japanese culture, and I’m happy.”

They will hold another Japanese Garden Celebration in the spring.
