Just in time for football season, high schoolers with Huntsville City Schools will be playing on some shiny new turf.
Milton Frank Stadium is getting that upgrade right now after 12 years of the turf being worn down. Turf cools down the stadium and makes it safer for players.
The process of putting it in takes weeks but now we’re starting to see what the finished product will look like. It’s expected to be done in a week.
“This is like the front porch of the athletic department,” said HCS Athletic Director Scott Stapler. “All five city schools use it and all nine middle schools use it. Anybody who’s ever been an athlete in Huntsville City Schools at some point has been in this stadium to watch a game or play on a team.”
The first high school football game there will be August 22nd. Some of the old turf is being re-purposed to go in places like batting cages.
