Monrovia volunteer firefighters got their hands dirty today during a “real-life” fire drill.
Firefighters were able to practice putting out a structure fire at an abandoned building in Huntsville. They practiced several drills, from search and rescue to putting out a fire.
This was the first live fire training for eleven new volunteer firefighters. Fire Chief Kris West says it’s important for them to get this kind of hands on experience
“You can’t simulate live fire, so when you get the opportunity to do it, there’s no training that compares to it, so these opportunities are slim and they’re far and few between so we like to get them when we can,” said West.
The firefighters also went over how to navigate through smoke and find where the fire started.
Monrovia Volunteer Fire & Rescue is always looking for more volunteer firefighters. Contact the fire department to apply.
