Morgan County has 60% increase of COVID-19 cases in one week

City health officials said they saw numerous people not abiding by the social distancing guidelines this weekend.

The number of positive coronavirus cases continue to soar in Morgan County. According to Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling, there were 395 cases last Monday and 638 today, which is more than 60% increase in coronavirus cases in one week.

City health officials said they saw numerous people not abiding by the social distancing guidelines this weekend.

"This weekend we rode through some of the Decatur parks and the ball parks were covered up," said Alabama Department of Public Health Administrator, Judy Smith. "I hope a lot of folks hit a lot of grounders and out of the ball parks but we have hit a lot of foul balls this weekend. There are over 2,700 new cases in 3 days."

Smith said it is crucial that everyone is social distancing to not spread the virus.
