If you see lights or hear sirens, move over!
We wanted to reiterate the importance of yielding to first responders so they can get where they need to go.
This is especially true in bad driving conditions like we are having here in the Valley, when more emergencies might happen.
Firefighter Ron Hopkins of Madison Fire & Rescue says, “A lot of people have a lot of things going on in life, so they don’t hear. Cell phones are terrible, people on cell phone, or people don’t know what to do. So, if you hear lights and sirens, pull over to the right. A lot of people want to pull over to the left. Pull over to the right and let us go by.”
It’s not just up to firefighters, police officers and EMTs to get to their emergencies safely. It’s up to all of us to help, too.
If you see lights or hear sirens, slow down and move out of the way so they can pass.
