HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — McDonald's bagel breakfast sandwiches, one of the first things to disappear from menus in the pandemic era, is indeed making a sunrise-like reappearance. However, the question of when may depend on your location.
The bagel sandwiches disappeared from the national McDonald's breakfast menu in early 2020, around the same time the chain's all-day breakfast offering was discontinued.
In the North Alabama area, bagels appeared on menu boards over the past week, as they also did in the Pennsylvania market. They appear to be the latest in a staggered return of the sandwiches.
Over the past year, the return of the heralded range of steak, bacon, or sausage sandwiches has been chronicled by many online fan blogs and social media accounts such as the Facebook group Where's my McDonald's bagel?
The bagels are already back in select markets on the west coast, such as the late January return of the lineup to Southern California. When this reporter made a trip to the Smoky Mountains region in early October 2023, we found bagels available at Sevierville-area McDonald's shops.
It is also on these digital fan spots that repeated posts mention a full rollout date of April 1.
When we contacted McDonald's press office to confirm the date, a spokesperson could not do so, only to say that it is hoped the bagels will see full nationwide availability.
While a reason for a more staggered reintroduction was not explained, it is known that stores in any one region may get ingredients and supplies from a different number of companies compared to stores in another area. It may take time to get all regional suppliers ready to offer bagels to stores across America.
