Huntsville ranks in the top 10 of U.S. News and World Report best places to live

Three other Alabama cities, including Montgomery, Mobile, and Birmingham, also make the list.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville has been ranked in 7th place in the latest rankings by U.S. News & World Report for the best places to live in 2024-2025. Released annually, the rankings serve as a guide for people and families seeking the ideal location to call home. Key factors in the rankings, including affordability, quality of life, job opportunities, and overall desirability, are evaluated to determine the standings of each city.

Huntsville retained its position in the top 10 in this year's report, though it is down from No. 2 last year. Despite this drop in the rankings, Huntsville remains among the most desirable places to live according to the scoring done by U.S. News & World Report. Notably, three other Alabama cities made the Top 150 list. Montgomery ranked #54, Mobile ranked #102, and Birmingham ranked #129.

The top 10 places to live in 2024, according to U.S. News & World Report, are as follows:

  2. Boise, ID
  3. Colorado Springs, CO
  4. Greenville, SC
  5. Charlotte, NC
  6. Raleigh, NC
  7. Huntsville, AL
  8. Virginia Beach, VA
  9. Austin, TX
  10. Boulder, CO
