HOUSTON — American astronauts on board the International Space Station shared a patriotic message as earthbound humans headed for the polls.

Butch Wilmore, Suni Williams, Nick Hague and Don Pettit posed in red-white-and blue attire -- including socks reading "Proud to be American" -- in a photo that Hague shared via Instagram on Tuesday.

As is typical for orbiting astronauts, ISS crew members voted early, sending their ballots back to Houston.

"It doesn’t matter if you are sitting, standing, or floating -- what matters is that you vote!" Hague said in his Instagram post.

Wilmore and Williams are the two astronauts working a much-extended shift on the ISS due to concerns regarding the Starliner spacecraft that delivered them to the station.
