Northeast Madison County is seeing a rise in commercial development. Starbucks is the latest business to open up in the area.
“Now Open,” it’s a sign you’re going to see a lot of in Northeast Madison County as more commercial development comes to the area and residential projects as well.
Starbucks on Winchester Road opened its doors about a month ago.
“I go so much lately I’ve been going everyday but we don’t tell too many people that,” said Sherry Raines Madison County resident.
People who live in Northeast Madison County are thrilled about it and the other new businesses that are coming to the Riverton area including an Aldi grocery store.
“Along side of Walmart, a new Aldi store and then across the street will be another development, the Friendship Commons and they’ll be apartments and a strip mall and I’m told restaurants and stores,” explained Roger Jones, County Commissioner for District 1.
That part of the County has been annexed into the City of Huntsville but there are more residential projects in the works.
“Hazel Green area is really booming. Behind Walmart there are two big developments going in. One may have 500 homes, the other 161 homes,” Jones continued.
Commissioner Roger Jones attributes the strong economy and more people moving to the area for to the uptick in development. He said more money spent in the county will benefit area schools.
“Sales tax goes to education, goes to our local schools, they’re growing and they need additional income,” Jones said.
Residents are excited to have more stores nearby. “It’s a long time coming, this area needed it. Very convenient for all the families that basically live in the Madison High School area, the Buckhorn community,” Raines said.
