HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Two special elections are set to take place in 2024. Alabama House of Representatives District 10 and the State Senate District 9 will be determined this year.
District 9
Alabama State Senate District 9 is also set for a special election on April 23, 2024, following the resignation of incumbent Clay Scofield (R) on October 30, 2023. Scofield stepped down to pursue opportunities in the private sector, leaving the seat vacant.
The special Republican primary for Alabama State Senate District 9 is scheduled for January 9, 2024, with a primary runoff slated for February 6, 2024. The candidates competing for the Republican nomination include:
- Brock Colvin - 2,702 votes (38.3%)
- Stacy George - 646 votes (9.2%)
- Wes Kitchens - 3,707 votes (52.5%)
There are no Democrats running for the seat. The primary for State Senate District 9 will determine the candidates for the general election.
Senate District 9 includes:
- Marshall County
- Southwest Madison County
- Northern Blount County
District 10
A special election has been scheduled for Alabama House of Representatives District 10 on March 26, 2024, following the cancellation of the special primary held on December 12, 2023. The primary was called off after only one candidate was nominated by each party.
In the upcoming special general election for District 10 two candidates will compete for the seat. The nominations include:
- Marilyn Lands (D)
- Teddy Powell (R)
