Madison County Judge addresses voting machine issues on Election Day

Madison County faces voting machine issues on Election Day. Judge Barger assures voters can still cast ballots.
Madison County voting machines were tested on Wednesday, October 30.

MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA, Ala. — Two polling locations in Madison County are experiencing issues with voting machines this Election Day.

FOX54 reached out to Madison County Probate Judge Frank Barger, who explained that problems like these are not uncommon and occur during every election. He reassured voters that they would still have the opportunity to cast their ballots.

At the Lincoln Church of Christ polling location, a ballot caused a machine to jam earlier this morning. Barger stated that the issue was resolved within a few minutes.

Similarly, at the Andrew Jackson Way location, a machine malfunctioned, and workers began addressing the issue. By 9:40 a.m., Barger said that the malfunctioning machine would be replaced with a new one.

Barger emphasized that voters could either wait for the machines to be repaired or use a secure drop box to submit their ballots, which will be scanned later.

Common causes for machine jams include slight tears in ballots or portions of the ballot tab being left on the ballot itself.
