KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Republican Congressman from Tennessee, Andy Ogles, introduced Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris Tuesday. These articles were introduced soon after President Biden chose not to seek reelection, opting instead to endorse Harris.
Ogles introduced the articles of impeachment against the current VP for "high crimes and misdemeanors," according to his website.
"The articles cite her gross incompetence in dealing with the crisis at the southern border and her betrayal of the American people," the website said.
Ogles also released a statement regarding his decision to introduce the articles. The statement claims that "countless women and children have been raped and murdered" because she "willfully disregarded" her responsibilities as Vice President.
"Kamala Harris has disgraced the Office of the Vice President and willfully disregarded her oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. She is not only an embarrassment to the country but has also intentionally ignored her responsibility to enforce the laws of the United States and protect the American people. On her watch, every single town has become a border town. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have overdosed on illicit drugs brought across the southern border, and countless women and children have been raped and murdered. Kamala Harris has betrayed the trust of the public by failing to exercise her sworn duty to employ the provisions of the 25th Amendment to remove President Biden from office when it became apparent that he was mentally and physically incapable of continuing to serve. For these reasons alone, immediate action should be taken to impeach her.”
The White House called for Congress to secure the border on June 18, 2024. However, the White House said Congressional Republicans twice voted against its proposed set of immigration reforms. The administration also effectively halted asylum claims for people arriving in the U.S. between officially designated ports of entry.
This is also not Ogles's first introduction of Articles of Impeachment against Harris. He also introduced them in 2023 during the first session of the 118th Congress.
Harris is expected to be the Democratic nominee in the presidential race.
Ogles faces Courtney Johnston in the Aug. 1 Republican primary.
