According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 3 men and women have a risk of developing some type of cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 5 men and women risk dying from some form of Cancer.
For a firefighter, those stats are much worse. Firefighters are 9 times more likely to develop cancer and 13 times for likely to die from cancer compared to the average person.
That’s why this October Chief Meteorologist Jordan Dressman is teaming up with the Huntsville Fire Association to raise awareness and raise donations for cancer research.
Through the entire month of October, you can donate to Dressman’s website and purchase a t-shirt from the Huntsville Firefighters association with 100% of the funds going to the North Alabama Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
T-shirts from the Huntsville Firefighters Association are just $20 for a long-sleeve and $15 for a short-sleeve. They are designed right here in Huntsville and they can be purchased by seeing any Huntsville Firefighter or calling any of the Fire Stations in Huntsville.
The Challenge
To kick off the Real Men Wear Pink campaign Captain Troy Graves with The Huntsville Fire Department has issued a challenge to the Tennessee Valley. If we can meet the goal of $2,500 by the end of the week (October 6, 2019), Captain Graves will color his mustache pink. This isn’t just the easy wash stuff either. Captain Graves plans to color his mustache with semi-permanent PINK hair color.
All donations are tax-deductible and some employers will match donations made to the campaign. You check and see if your employer matches by clicking the “DONATE” button and typing your employer into the box to see if they participate.
