Drive-thru funerals now offered in Murfreesboro

Guests stay in their cars to pay their respects for an open casket visitation.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The coronavirus pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives, including how we can say a final goodbye to our loved ones.

That's why a funeral home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee is now offering drive-thru funerals.

Owner Wendy Hellum says the window has been there for 40 years now, but never got used until coronavirus concerns changed the world last month.

Angela Murray celebrated the life of the father of her three boys here last Saturday.

"They was able to visualize him, you know for the last time to say their goodbyes. I think he'd be very proud."

Far from traditional, but Murray says the drive-thru service was still beautiful.

And for the families who want to have another service once social distancing guidelines are lifted, the funeral home is offering these services to families free of charge.
