This week Madison City Schools are putting to practice what addiction recovery officials say may help curb the drug epidemic: drug education.

At Columbia Elementary School slogans and colors are teaching young kids to say ‘no’ to drugs.

Colorful signs decorate the hallways inside. Kids will be wearing neon because “their futures are too bright for drugs” and silly socks to “sock it to drugs.”

The principal says now is the age for kids to learn this.

“Our children are so impressionable,” said Principal Jamie Hill. “We have every opportunity to create awareness and obviously teach and train and coach and support our kids. I don’t know if there’s another place or a better place.”

More than 850 kids are learning this at Columbia Elementary alone.
