DECATUR, Ala. — Steve Perkins was shot and killed by Decatur police on Sept. 29, 2023, and while family, friends, and supporters continue their calls for justice, they're also remembering his life.
In honor of his 40th birthday, three events celebrating his life will be held from January 4-6, 2024.
On January 4, there will be a balloon release and parade from 6:30pm-8:00pm at 2nd St./Grant St. SE (Downtown) in Decatur.
On January 5, supporters are invited to the Austin vs. Decatur basketball game to support Perkins's daughter, Jada, at Decatur High School.
And on January 6 from 12:00pm-3:30pm, a free panel discussion at Decatur's Princess Theatre will feature speakers from around the country on the topic From Grief to Action: Healing, Justice, and Accountability in the Face of Police Violence.
