HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — U.S. Representative Dale W. Strong (R-AL) has been selected by House Republican leadership to serve on the influential Appropriations Committee, marking an achievement in only his second term in Congress.

Strong’s appointment comes as part of a broader effort to shape federal spending, a key responsibility of the Appropriations Committee. The committee plays a central role in determining how taxpayer dollars are allocated and oversees all discretionary spending.

“It’s past time we put America First. Those that serve on this committee are not seeking to be popular and are willing to take the tough votes to save America for future generations. Chairman Tom Cole understands the changes that must be made, and I am honored to serve alongside him. Our time is now!” said Representative Dale W. Strong.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, welcomed Strong’s selection, saying, “I welcome Dale to the Committee and look forward to working with him. His leadership in local government and lifelong commitment to public service uniquely position him for this role. I believe he will be a valuable asset to the Committee as we work to restore conservative ideals and responsibly fund the federal government.”

The Appropriations Committee’s influence is outlined in the U.S. Constitution, which states, “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.” The committee is tasked with reviewing and approving federal spending, ensuring that taxpayer money is used responsibly.

“Alabama has a decades-spanning history of powerful service on the Appropriations Committee. This assignment ensures our state's historical influence on how federal dollars are spent continues,” said Strong.

The House Republican Conference is expected to formally ratify the Steering Committee’s recommendations in the coming days.

Strong will be the first Republican to represent Alabama’s 5th Congressional District on the Appropriations Committee.
