HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As Alabama experiences its summer rainy season, drivers across the state are reminded of the importance of vehicle safety laws, particularly regarding the use of headlights during inclement weather. Drivers are required by law to turn on their headlights when it rains, ensuring safer conditions on the road.

According to Alabama's traffic laws (Alabama Code Title 32, Section 5-240), headlights must be on from half an hour after sunset until half an hour before sunrise. Additionally, headlights must be used when windshield wipers are operating due to rain, sleet, or snow, except during intermittent use caused by misting rain, sleet, or snow. This helps other drivers see your car better, reducing the risk of accidents.

Drivers who don't follow these rules may be fined, so it's important to remember to turn on your headlights when driving in rainy conditions.
