BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs has unveiled new grant-funded resources aimed at enhancing law enforcement, crime prevention, victim assistance, and emergency management in the Northern District of Alabama.
Key recipients of the grants in North Alabama include:
- Alabama A&M University: $300,000 for campus security upgrades.
- Madison County Sheriff’s Office: $1.02 million for at least 15 new patrol vehicles.
- Morgan County: $595,000 for equipment to respond to active shooter incidents.
- National Child Advocacy Center (Huntsville): $1.1 million for technical assistance and support for child advocacy nationwide.
- Sheffield: $495,000 for police vehicle purchases.
U.S. Attorney Escalona highlighted the importance of these awards, stating, “These grants reflect the many ways that the Department of Justice is engaged to improve the lives of the residents of this District. We are proud to support the work of our state, local, and community partners in reducing violent crime, assisting crime victims, and supporting reentry and crime prevention efforts.”
