Applicants were provided the opportunity to present their business plans to commissioners last week, after the AMCC announced it would toss out the problematic scoring system created by a third-party which led to the nullification of previous awards.
“The presentations we received from applicants this week were insightful and allowed Commission members to ask questions about the contents and merits of their application,” explained Commission Chairman Rex Vaughn in a written statement. “We received applications and presentations from applicants who would make terrific licensees, which made our job of selecting a limited number of them challenging. However, I trust this Commission’s wisdom and discretion in selecting the best applicants to serve as licensees in Alabama’s newest industry. ”
Applicants who were awarded a license will have 14 days to submit the appropriate license fee. Any applicant who has been denied a license has the same 14 day window to request an investigative hearing before the Commission for reconsideration of said denial.
Next up for the AMCC: The Commission will receive presentations from integrated facility applicants December 5-8 and will award those licenses on December 12, 2023.
Physicians may begin the certification process to recommend medical cannabis to qualified patients after business licenses have been issued.
