BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A shootout on the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, early Sunday between at least two parties left one person dead and six people wounded, police said.
Police responding to reports of gunshots just after 2 a.m. in west Birmingham found a car that had crashed into a utility pole, Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a video posted on the social platform X.
The driver was dead. Officers found another man unresponsive with a gunshot wound at a nearby gas station. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said five other people showed up at hospitals with gunshot wounds. They were expected to survive. Two people were taken into custody while they were discarding guns, Fitzgerald told al.com.
The news outlet reported that more than 150 rounds were fired, also striking multiple vehicles and a business. Investigators were trying to determine what started the shooting.
