FOLEY, Ala. — Baldwin County investigators say a 17-year-old boy intentionally pushed a 6-year-old girl into a fire. The teen has since been charged with attempted murder and second-degree assault.
According to a post from the sheriff's office Facebook account, deputies responded Sunday afternoon to a home on Claremont Drive in an unincorporated area of Foley to a call about a domestic incident. Officials said an unidentified third party called in, stating a child had been burned.
Deputies arrived to find the girl and her mother at a neighbor's house. Both had suffered what officials described as "significant" burns. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment, where deputies said they were in stable condition as of Sunday.
Investigators made contact with the boy and determined that he intentionally pushed the girl into the fire. The mother then sustained the burns trying to pull the girl out of the flames.
The investigation is ongoing, officials said.
