The man accused of shooting and killing four people, and wounding 17 others outside a club in Five Points South in September has been indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury in another mass shooting in July and a homicide in August.
Damien McDaniel was indicted on capital murder (two or more persons) and four counts capital murder (committed by or through the use of a deadly weapon fired or otherwise used within or from a vehicle) for the killings of Markeshia Gettings, Stevie McGhee, Angela Weatherspoon, and Lerandus Anderson at Trendsetters Lounge on 27th Street North.
McDaniel was also indicted on 10 counts of assault first degree linked to the July 13 shooting that happened during a birthday party.
Birmingham Police did not release a clear timeline, but initially said there was an altercation during the party, then someone drove by and fired shots into the lounge.
McGhee, 42, was found shot to death on the sidewalk, and Gettings, 42, and Weatherspoon (56), were found dead inside, according to Birmingham Police. Anderson was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.
A Birmingham Police sergeant testified during a civil hearing about the “pandemonium and panic” he witnessed when he arrived to the nightclub the night of the shooting.
McDaniel was also indicted with capital murder (during a burglary in the first or second degree or an attempt thereof committed by the defendant) in the killing of Charlie Herbert Moore on August 13.
Moore, 61, was found shot to death in an apartment in a housing community in North Birmingham known as Vice Hills.
According to BPD, officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of 43rd Avenue North by Real Time Crime Center Specialists and while investigating, they heard gunshots at a nearby apartment. Officers saw a person exit an apartment with a gun, confronted him, and fired shots, according to a news release.
BPD were unsure if the suspect was hit.
McDaniel was previously charged in 6 homicides that happened during a violent crime spree beginning on September 19. McDaniel is accused of killing Diontranet Brown, 35, at the 604 Lounge, who officers believe was not the intended target. Two days later, officers say McDaniel killed 4 people, and wounded 17 others outside a club in Five Points South. He is also charged in Jamarcus McIntyre’s murder, which happened less than 24 hours after the mass shooting.
McDaniel is charged with killing 11 people, and shooting 30 others in Birmingham since July.
