Birmingham Zoo brings the zoo to you

The zoo is now offering virtual safaris and more for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala — The Birmingham Zoo remains closed until further notice to help stop the spread of COVID-19 but they're still working hard to provide a way to bring the zoo to you safely from your home.

The Birmingham Zoo are offering several virtual programs available on their website, one of which is Virtual Story Safari. Join them for a virtual story time led by an educator from the Birmingham Zoo!  Each half hour Virtual Story Safari will feature a read aloud of an animal/conservation related picture book, followed by a short video lesson containing exclusive footage of some of our amazing animals. Tickets are $10 per family and you can register for Virtual Story Safari here.

GOOD MORNING from our business of ferrets! We are sure these cute little faces will steal your heart! The name "ferret" is derived from the Latin word furittus, meaning "little thief" and likely refers to the common ferret habit of secreting away small items...see, we told you! . .

Next up is Digital Discovery Adventures. Digital Discovery Adventures are great way for kids to connect to the Birmingham Zoo in fun and engaging ways.  The enriching classes are led by Zoo Educators and feature bio-facts and exclusive video of some of the Zoo’s most interesting animals.  Web-based classes range from 30 – 45 minutes and are aligned with both state and national learning standards. Tickets are $15 per student and you can register for Digital Discovery Adventures here.

Lastly, the Birmingham Zoo is also offering a mini series called Meet the Neighbors that will showcase a new animal each week as well as some interesting and fun facts about the featured animal. You can find the mini series here on the Birmingham Zoo's YouTube channel.
