Starting September 1, 2019, you can expect to pay more if you violate Alabama’s “Move Over” law. The laws was designed to protect emergency personnel on the side of the highway.
Alabama’s move over law is not new, but state troopers say people are still violating it.
The law requires drivers to move away from emergency vehicles parked alongside the road. Last year, the law was expanded to protect any vehicle that displays flashing lights.
Resident Malcolm Branner likes the move over law. He says, “I like the sign that says, ‘Move over so they can go home and be with their kids,’ and I think you need to think about that in any type of area [where an] incident could be taking place.”
Starting September 1, the fine will increase from $25 to $100 for first offenders.
