The No. 2-ranked girls golfer in the Class of 2020 has given a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.
Michaela Morard, 14, of Huntsville, Ala., also made unofficial visits to Auburn, Georgia and Mississippi State before deciding on the Crimson Tide.
“I have always wanted to play college golf in the very competitive SEC,” said Morard, an eighth-grader at Huntsville Junior High. “I chose the University of Alabama because of Coach Mic (Potter) and Coach Susan (Rosenstiel), the amazing practice facilities, the highly rated business school and the winning traditions the Crimson Tide women’s golf program has experienced over the past decade.”
Morard, who is ranked second in the Class of 2020 and No. 37 overall by Golfweek, has six top-5 finishes in AJGA events since 2015, including a victory at the 2015 Junior All-Star at Chateau Elan and T-9 finish at the 2015 Polo Junior Golf Classic at PGA National. She was named to the AJGA’s Junior All-Star and Rolex All-American teams in 2015.
On the prep level, Morard is a two-time Class 6A/7A state individual champion and is the defending Alabama Junior Girls State Amateur winner.
