AAMU Bulldogs hold scrimmage on Saturday

Coach Maynor and Aqeel Glass weighed in following the scrimmage.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Alabama A&M Bulldogs hosted its first scrimmage of the preseason today at Louis Crews Stadium. The team is returning the majority of its 2021 Spring Championship Team but they were without six defensive starters for today’s scrimmage due to COVID-19 protocols.

As a result, the Bulldogs defense struggled during the scrimmage but it helped put the offense under a microscope.

“We want the defense to get some stops but in that situation with six defensive starters short and they’re getting stops on offense then that means the offense ain’t clicking on all cylinders so they [offense] did what they had to do,” said Head Coach Maynor.

The offense had the true opportunity to shine today. Each of the teams their quarterback made connections in the endzone totaling six touchdowns on the day, four of those were at the hands of Senior standout, Aqeel Glass. Even though the offense was the Goliath in comparison to the defense, the stakes are higher for the entire team as they look to defend their SWAC title this upcoming season.

“No matter what the situation is whether it’s a game or practice we have to always come out and work the hardest we can…everyone’s going to be gunning for us, everyone’s going to bring us there so we have to make sure we come out prepared for anything.”

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs open its season at home on September 4th with a matchup against South Carolina State.
