ARLINGTON, Texas — Alabama native Gunnar Henderson, the Baltimore Orioles' rising star shortstop and last year’s AL Rookie of the Year, has been named to the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.

The 23-year-old Gunnar Henderson was born in Montgomery and raised in Selma, Alabama, where he attended John T. Morgan Academy. He stood out early, winning the Gatorade Alabama Baseball Player of the Year award in 2019. He was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2nd round with the 42nd overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft. Initially committed to Auburn University like his older brother Jackson, Henderson decided to pursue a career with the Baltimore Orioles, making his MLB debut in 2022.

Henderson has impressed this season with a .288 batting average, 26 home runs, and 13 stolen bases, boasting a stellar .983 OPS. His impact was immediate, homering in his MLB debut against the Cleveland Guardians on August 31, 2022.

The MLB All-Star Game on FOX, where Henderson will showcase his talents alongside baseball's elite, is scheduled for July 16 in Arlington, Texas. Before that, fans can catch him in action at the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on July 15 at Globe Life Field.
