Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs fall to UAB, 74-67

Four AAMU players finished in double figures as the Bulldogs dropped Tuesday evening's game against the UAB Blazers, 74-67.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —

Four Bulldogs finished in double figures as the Bulldogs dropped Tuesday evening's game against the UAB Blazers, 74-67. Senior Lauryn Pendleton led the Maroon and white with 14 points.   

Darian Burgin contributed 13 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Kalia Walker added 13 points and two steals while Kourtney Rittenberry tallied 11 points and three steals. Alisha Wilson paced the Bulldogs defensively, nabbing nine rebounds and three steals in addition to her nine points  

Maddie Walsh paced the Blazers with 22 points and three assists. Jade Weathersby recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Journey Armstead added 13 points and five rebounds. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Blazers got on the board first and took an early 4-0 lead  

  • A pair of free throws from Burgin put the bulldogs on the board 

  • Blazers led by as many as seven, forcing a Bulldog timeout at 9-2 

  • Bulldogs cut the lead to two (12-10) but a shot from behind the arc put the Blazers back up five (15-10) 

  • AAMU shot 87.5 percent from the line in the first quarter, compared to UAB's 46.7 percent 

  • Both teams tied at the end of the first, 20-20 

  • Pendleton shot two consecutive from behind the arc and a jumper to tie the contest 30-30 

  • Bulldogs led 40-37 at the half 

  • AAMU went scoreless for the first two-and-a-half minutes until a jumper from Burgin squared the match 42-42 

  • Blazers led at the end of the third 55-51 

  • Burgin pierced a shot from deep out of the first media timeout 

  • Walker added another from behind the arc to level the contest, 63-63 with a little over five minutes to play 

  • UAB went on an 8-0 run down the stretch, with the Bulldogs going scoreless for four minutes 

  • Rittenberry's Technical foul put the Blazers ahead at 65-73 

  • Walker added a pair of free throws, but UAB claimed the contest 74-67 

GAME NOTES  

  • Alabama A&M shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the field and 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from the free-throw line 

  • AAMU went 6-15 (40 percent) from behind the arc 

  • The Bulldogs grabbed 36 total rebounds 

  • Lauryn Pendleton recorded 14 points

  • UAB grabbed 43 rebounds 

  • Maddie Walsh paced the Blazers with 22 points and three assists  

  • Jade Weathersby recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
