HOUSTON — Coach Margaret Richards, Otis Hughley and several Bulldog student-athletes represented Alabama A&M at SWAC Basketball Media Days this week in Texas. The Lady Bulldogs were predicted to finish 4th in the SWAC this season, while the men are predicted to finish 7th this season.
Lady Bulldogs selected to finish 4th in SWAC Predicted Order of Finish
The Alabama A&M University women's basketball program was selected fourth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) predicted order of finish, the conference announced during SWAC Media Day on Tuesday.
Alabama A&M, which went 14-15 overall last season and 12-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, reached the conference tournament quarterfinals, falling 62-55 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Bulldogs garnered 200 points to earn the fourth spot, while Jackson State, the defending regular season champions, received 11 first-place votes and 267 points in being predicted to win the conference.
Southern, with five first-place votes, received 245 points and was tabbed second, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff, with 216 points, was named third.
Alabama State was selected fifth with 190 points, followed by Prairie View A&M (174), Bethune-Cookman (144), Grambling State (144) and Alcorn State (119). Florida A&M (79), Texas Southern (66) and Mississippi Valley State (44) rounded out the 12-team field.
Alabama A&M opens the season on Nov. 6 on the road against UAB.

The Alabama A&M University men's basketball program was chosen seventh in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) predicted order of finish, which was announced on Wednesday.
Alabama A&M, which went 15-18 overall last season and 10-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, advanced to the conference tournament semifinals. The Bulldogs defeated Southern, 77-63 in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual tourney champions Texas Southern, 74-61, in the semifinals.
The Bulldogs garnered one first-place vote and registered 140 points to claim the seventh spot. Texas Southern, the defending tournament champions, received 10 first-place votes and 240 points and is predicted to win the conference.
Grambling State, with 233 points, was chosen second, followed by Alcorn State (214), Jackson State (213), Southern (153) and Prairie View A&M (151).
Alabama State was selected eighth with 121 points, while Bethune-Cookman (107), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (105), Florida A&M (97) and Mississippi Valley State (30) rounded out the 12-team field.
Alabama A&M opens the season on Nov. 6 against Oakwood, with a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Event Center.
